Get Smarter About Vitamin D

This time of year the hours of daylight are fading and so is the opportunity to get enough sunlight exposure to  produce Vitamin D.  This essential vitamin promotes bone strength and density, immune function, cardiovascular and neurological health, and a healthy gastrointestinal (GI) system.  Vitamin D helps the body maintain healthy levels of calcium and phosphorus.  It is needed for the body to absorb calcium.  The easiest form of Vitamin D for the body to absorb, also known as having high bioavailability, is Vitamin D3.  If you are going to supplement with this vitamin it is strongly recommended you do so with the D3 form. This means it has already gone through the chemical conversion process so that your body has to do less work and it decreases risk of losing effectiveness if the body has difficulty with the conversion process.
