Adapt a Recipe: Holiday Oatmeal

Dr. Kristina Fruechtl Blog

Changing recipes to be healthier or suit your individual nutritional needs, need not be daunting.  Here is a simple one to start with: Holiday Oatmeal.  Oatmeal is well known for it’s soluble fiber content, which is beneficial for preventing heart disease, protecting against diabetes and helping to manage blood sugar levels, aiding in weight loss, and for healthy bowel movements.

To make this recipe suit you, try these substitutions:

Use almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk instead of regular cow’s milk.  Look for unsweetened varieties.

Use a small amount of honey instead of brown sugar, or try without any sugar at all. The fruit will give it some sweetness.

Use unsweetened dried fruit.
